If you are looking for a general use broadband connection for use at home then all you need to think about is the amount you are likely to download; an average single person will use under 2gb a month whereas an average family would use around 5gb. This figure goes up if you are likely to download movies or use streaming service like iPlayer.
Now we know what you need what we are looking for we need to know which provider. Whichever provider you go with you will share a network with other people; what's important here is how many people are sharing the amount of bandwidth available. Service Providers pay a fixed fee for bandwidth so the more people that share the connection the more money they make or the lower the price to you. The problem comes when too many people are sharing and things start to slow down, it's a bit like congestion on a motorway.
